Cycles Artist Book • Preorder
We mirror nature, are carried by the same rhythms, and subject to the same silent laws. Living gardens, where things are born, fade, and transform. Roots remain anchored to the soil, yet flowers release their seeds to the wind – trusting that unseen currents will carry them to distant, unknown places. What we lose becomes part of what we are becoming.
A tactile object that holds reproductions of the photographs from the Cycles series, printed on delicate Japanese Kozo paper (7.3 g/m²).
First edition, limited to 50 copies.
Each book is handcrafted in collaboration with local Barcelona artisans.
Journey to India
The project traces back to the journey I took on my own to India in October 2024. It was a month that completely changed how I see the processes we go through. It made me see transitions not as something linear, but as a cycle – something that is always in motion.
Life and death existed side by side there. Death wasn’t a taboo, but something obvious. I witnessed rituals at the ghats, where bodies were cremated in the open air, visible to everyone. Covered with flowers, everything slowly returned to one matter. What remained was carried away by animals or taken by the river.
Rhythm of returning
Over several months after returning I observed various flower species in the studio, coming back daily to witness their unfolding and fading. Learning not to impose a narrative, but to receive one.
At first, I would arrive with an idea, imagining how the flowers might transform. Many of them, perhaps to teach me something, never opened. Each had its own rhythm and character.
In the series, you see ten flowers, though over several months I photographed around thirty species. The selection was very personal. I wanted to capture different transformations and energies that we can identify with.

Japanese Kozo Paper, 7.3 g/m²
Fragile, translucent, and sensitive to light and touch, the paper echoes the flower itself. It is made of 100% kozo – the inner bark of the mulberry tree. At only 7.3 g/m², the paper is remarkably delicate, yet astonishingly resistant for its weight.
Printing required numerous trials and the development of a personal technique.
For the large pieces, I softly layered one sheet onto another, forming each work as a cycle without a clear beginning or end.

In the book, they are shown separately, so each layer can be seen and experienced on its own.
The process
We made the first Cycles artist book together with our hands, @paula_illescas_ and @catarisso , before the exhibition in September.
A collaborative act, with the intention of enclosing the project in another, intimate form.
